Emergency Dentist in Carmel Valley
What to do first, and when to call
Tooth pain, a broken tooth, or a knocked-out tooth? Call Gentle Dentistry of Carmel Valley at (858) 350-7400 and we will find the earliest time we can see you.
Dental problems rarely wait for a convenient time. If you are in pain or have damaged a tooth, call (858) 350-7400 and tell our team what happened. We will help you decide how urgent it is and find the earliest time we can see you, based on that day's schedule.
Our office is open Monday through Thursday, 9am to 5pm, at 4765 Carmel Mountain Rd #205, a short drive from Carmel Valley, Del Mar, Torrey Pines, and Sorrento Valley. Dr. Maggie Abadan, DDS and her team can evaluate the problem and walk you through your options, including what each one costs, before treatment begins.
Benefits
- Toothache: rinse with warm salt water and floss gently around the tooth. Do not put aspirin on the gum.
- Chipped or broken tooth: save any pieces, rinse your mouth, and use a cold compress on your cheek for swelling.
- Knocked-out adult tooth: hold it by the crown, keep it moist in milk, and call right away.
- Lost filling or crown: keep the crown if you have it and avoid chewing on that side.
- Swelling in the face or gums: call us the same day. Swelling that spreads toward the eye or neck needs the ER.
- Trouble breathing or swallowing: call 911 first.

Frequently Asked Questions
What counts as a dental emergency?
Severe tooth pain, a knocked-out or loose adult tooth, a badly broken tooth, swelling in the face or gums, and bleeding that will not stop are all reasons to call right away. If you are unsure, call (858) 350-7400 and describe what is happening.
When should I go to the ER instead of a dentist?
Call 911 or go to the emergency room for trouble breathing or swallowing, swelling that is spreading toward the eye or neck, uncontrolled bleeding, a high fever with facial swelling, or a serious facial injury.
What should I do if a tooth is knocked out?
Pick the tooth up by the crown, not the root. If it is dirty, rinse it briefly with water. Try to place it back in the socket and bite gently on clean gauze. If that is not possible, keep it in milk, then call a dentist right away, because time matters.
Can I be seen if I am not already a patient?
Yes, please call. We will ask about your symptoms and find the earliest time we can see you. Availability depends on the day's schedule.
What are your hours?
Gentle Dentistry of Carmel Valley is open Monday through Thursday, 9am to 5pm, at 4765 Carmel Mountain Rd #205, San Diego, CA 92130. Outside those hours, go to an emergency room or urgent care for anything serious.
