Invisalign® Services

It’s safe to say that traditional orthodontics are not particularly flattering to anyone’s appearance. Bulky metal brackets and wires are conspicuous and don’t suit most people’s features. Advances in orthodontic technology have spawned a clear braces system called Invisalign. Dr. Abadan offers Invisalign to San Diego patients at her Carmel Valley practice. She is certified to use the Invisalign system and recommends it to many of her patients who are unhappy with crooked, crowded or unevenly aligned teeth. If you are looking for a discreet way to improve the appearance of your smile, this treatment is likely your best option.

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is an orthodontic system that uses a sequence of clear plastic aligners to straighten your teeth. The aligners, which resemble tooth whitening trays, are custom-fitted to your mouth and can be removed for eating, drinking and cleaning. There are no metal materials or wires that could cut your gums or cheeks or cause any discomfort.

Aligners put gentle pressure on your teeth to gradually move them into the correct position and alignment. The aligners are swapped out every 2 weeks for the next set in the series until you achieve the straight, even smile that you desire.

How Can it Improve Your Smile (and Oral Health)

Invisalign is designed to correct orthodontic problems such as crookedness, crowding and spacing that can detract from an otherwise beautiful set of teeth. The discreetness of Invisalign allows you to wear your aligners to work or social events without anyone knowing that you’re undergoing orthodontic treatment.

Straight, even teeth are also good for your oral health. They are easier to clean, thus stemming tooth decay and the development and progression of gum disease (which is extremely detrimental to oral and overall health). Straight, properly aligned teeth also promote a healthier bite. An improper bite can cause jaw pain, difficulty speaking or chewing and increased tooth wear and tear. Invisalign successfully addresses these orthodontic issues and improves the beauty of your teeth.

The Treatment Process

Total treatment time varies by patient, but typically takes about 6 months.

Dr. Abadan begins your Invisalign treatment by taking dental X-rays, pictures and impressions; this information is then used to create a digital 3D image of your teeth. Dr. Abadan maps out your Invisalign treatment, beginning with your teeth’s initial position and ending with their final desired position. Dr. Abadan can show you a virtual representation of how Invisalign will shift your teeth during each stage of treatment.

When they are ready, Dr. Abadan will dispense your first set of custom-created aligners. Ideally, you should wear your aligners for 20 to 22 hours per day, removing them only to eat and to brush and floss your teeth. Dr. Abadan will instruct you on how to clean your aligners and keep them in top shape.

You will receive the next set of aligners in your sequence approximately every two weeks. Dr. Abadan will periodically check in with you to monitor your progress. If you have questions at any point of your treatment, Dr. Abadan is only a phone call away.
